skincare n tips
Heya all!
Im finally back from Zurich and it was SNOWING there!
Coolness 10 upon 10 coz it was my first snow sighting of '08. Didnt expect it to come so early in Oct, but it was pretty darn cool to wake up and see snow.
:)
My camera's buried somewhere deep in my bag, some pictures when I dig it out soon I promise.
I decided to stay in coz I didnt wanna risk frostbite and not feeling my fingers so it was great mask-ing time while watching old HongKong serials on my trusty DVD player!
God, I love creations like these.
Its a feel of Ch 55 u'noe in places where they dun even speaka Engrish.
Ok back to my facial regime.
I use a mixture of high-ends n low-ends products as long as they work on me.
(Recession soon, u know.)Some brands I've used forever, some are alittle new but is great so Im recommending them to u here.
:)
I have dry, dehydrated skin which is oily on the inside, but dry (due to work) on the outside.
I dun really get pimples, n even if I do,- they're usually on my T-zone.
Sometimes, if I was really lazy in my skincare, I get angry bumps on my cheeks coz my skin's so dry.
A quick intensive mask usually does the trick to soothe away dryness n bring moisture back into my skin but now I try to regulate my facial wash n toner to have optimum results with simpler steps.
I believe in great skincare, NOT great makeup.Step One: CleansingThe most important step of a skincare regime, yet one product which actually needs the least money.
People spend too much on cleanser, where actually a simple one is suffice.
My favourite is CETAPHIL GENTLE SKIN CLEANSER.
Description: Recommended by beauty pros and dermatologists, Cetaphil is famous for gently cleansing and moisturizing skin. Perfect for even the most sensitive skin. It doesnt dry out sensitive skins, but also cleans oily skins throughly.
Plus its cheap and 10 bucks gets u a big bottle.
For those who prefer lathering up to foam cleansers, I also recommend these few.
Clinique Liquid Facial SoapAll the benefits of Clinique’s famous dermatologist-developed facial soap in a new liquid formula.
La Mer Cleansing GelI've been using this for ages, n I love the smell of algae (I noe, weird.) n seaweed.
Or maybe its coz just La Mer, - my all time favourite.
Step Two: TonerPeople say u can skip this step if u really have good skin, but who can say that they really really have good skin?
I believe toners goes double-duty in totally getting rid of dirt n grime that ur cleanser had forgotten, but it should also gently exfoliate ur skin and prep it for the maximum absorption of ur moisturiser later.
I use
CLINIQUE's Clarifying Lotion 2.
Gentle exfoliating lotion for skins dry in the cheeks, comfortable to oily in the T-zone. De-flakes to reveal clearer skin. I like its tingly sensation after applying with cotton, n it kinda wakes up the skin.
Might be alittle strong for sensitive skin so try it out at counters first.
I use it alternate days.

I also like
Kose Sekkisei Lotion.
An intensive toner that provides moisturizing, anti-aging and brightening benefits. Lotion Excellent uses a technology that incorporates biomimetic ingredients to deliver double the concentration of Japanese and Chinese herbal extracts to instantly provide benefits to skin. Formulated with a unique combination of brightening and moisturizing herb extracts, plus two powerful anti-oxidant herbs for anti-aging properties.
Lively & bright impression.
Whitening lotion that helps brighten the appearance of dark spots to create a radiant, even toned complexion.
Sinking quickly into skin, the moisture-rich texture brings a fresh
and lively glow.
Helps prevent dryness and maintains a brighter & smoother skin. How to use:
Apply to clean skin. Saturate a cotton pad and gently pat on the skin.

I love this n have been using this for years.
It give a glow n lightens skin discolorations n doubles up as a mask if u purchase Kose mask pills.
(Drop a mask pill in lotion n it opens up to a full face mask.)
My another smelly favorite is
SKII Facial Treatment Essence.I guess this needs no introduction, being on TV for the longest time.
It is smelly but I would think it works in bringing a glow to ur skin.
Simply pour into palms of hands n pat onto face.
Might cause breakouts to some skins initially, so good to try out first.
Step Three: Moisturiser. This is where the greatest damage to the wallet should be.
A good, no, great moisturiser should not make ur face feel overly oily, nor make it tight moments after applying.
But dun follow trends blindly and pay thru ur nose for something that is not suitable for u.
Everyone has different needs and skin types so if u dun carry the same bag as ur friend, why should u use the same moisturiser?
My take is, if the glass shoe doesnt fit then try another one.
Remember, what might suit u now might not later in life as our skin ages and needs differ again.
Here are just some of my favourites, it might not suit u in the end, but no harm trying I guess! :p
Of coz, my HG all these years is
Creme De La Mer.
I use it religously, but sometimes truth is, I alternate it with my other cheaper moisturisers.
Firstly, this actually prompts skin to be in tip top condition, becoz do u realise that sometimes after using a product for a long time, the results dun seem as great as before?
Thus, I mix and match according to my skin and of coz, whichever cream I happen to grab first that day.
(Ok, kidding.)
I alternate my La Mer with:
U can never believe it, but my other favourite cream is actually a $3 LANOLIN natural cream made in New Zealand.
U can wiki n google about it, but I seriously doubt u can get it here in Singapore though.
I buy some whenever I go New Zealand or Australia where there have alot of natural skincare and I think it is great as its as organic skincare as orgainic can get.
N its darn cheap at airports too.
I also love Hazeline Snow.

I've been using it since I was a kid I think! It has great whitening effects, n u can use it on ur elbows, legs and wherever u can think of. Its extremely soothing too so I like it on hot humid days after I come out of a cold shower.
I use it alot on the neck area becoz its ultra moisturising and its cheap too.
N I love the smell too. Reminds me of when Im younger.
Some things are just classic, yes? :)
Well, thats all for today folks.
Im tired, having just touched down today. Maybe I'll come back n talk about my serums, eye creams n body lotions but hey, we'll keep it to another date, ya?
Happy Halloween everyone!
I'm spending mine in with the biggest character of all, Jungle Boy.
:)
Love love.

Over-exposed n Loving it
Having a field day camwhoring before church.

My new hair extensions!
Nice? They're straight but I curl-tonged them alittle.
:)
$120 @
Beauty in Vogue, Far East Plaza.
Braiding method, no pain, no itch, nothing.
But my hair just feels rather Rapunzel-like now.
Fortunately I lurve fairytales. Hehe.
But I cant comb thru from the roots n its some getting used to. ><

But its fun n great seeing Jungle Boy's eyebrows shoot up when I came home suddenly with long hair.
Have a great long weekend, everyone!
Love love.

Results might vary.

Typical Daily Conversations
Me: Tell u ah, women very poor thing one. Everytime suffer becoz of men. MENstruation, MENopause, MENtal illness.. etc.
Jungle Boy: Men also what.
Me: No lor!
Jungle Boy: Studies show that married men will always die earlier than their wives.
Me: Rubbish.
Jungle Boy: Its true. Dying is the only way to escape from their wives nagging.
Me: !@#$%^&
There u go, our typical conversation.

On hair, love and life.
Someone sweet left a tag regarding my hair and I feel like Im on top of the world.
:)
I dun pay much attention to my hair as much as I would love to admit, but sometimes I try to get my lazy butt off the couch to do something about its rather atrocious condition.
Dove Therapy for Dry & Damaged HairAn intensive moisture treatment that targets severe dryness and damage helping to repair rough textured hair. The Therapy Reviving Mask is designed to help repair the roughness and dryness of damaged hair. It also reduces frizz and flyways and leaves your hair soft.
My current Holy Grail after my favourite line of shampoo SYOSS was discontinued.
Frankly I was rather sceptical initally, being a somewhat snob after using salon exclusive shampoos.
But recession now you noe, and a shampoo is a shampoo afterall.
David Gan has no hair n he cuts hair for a living.
Its just like facial wash.
Its not the expensive ones that does the job better, u just
feeeeel that its better.
Cheap drugstores ones just works as well n I personally feel that this Dove range does the job for less.
I use a 50 cent dollap of shampoo for my rather thick hair, but actually u dun need so much if u have shorter or thinner hair.
People make the mistake of washing the whole head and hair from roots to tips but in the long run, frequent shampoo-ing will dry out the ends of ur hair sooner than u realise.
You should concentrate on the roots, removing excess dirt and oil from the scalp.
Masssage throughly to improve blood circulation and some swear it promotes hair growth.
(Some swear by brandy too but I dunno about that one ah.)
Dun worry about the rest of ur hair, when u rinse off the foam from the shampoo, it is enough to clean the bottom part of ur hair.
However, I advocate using better quality conditioners suitable for ur hair type.
I have thick, wavy and fizzy hair naturally, and my hairstylist
(ok, who also happens to be my best friend Wendy la.) refuses to rebond my hair after many pleas and attempts to bribe her with chocolate.
She just thinks that I dun need it.
Its extremely irritating to have a hairstylist n best friend rolled in one, becoz she'll usually threaten not to 'friend' me if I try to do anything funny with my hair.
Sometimes I think we are stuck in primary school, heh.
Er, ok *ahem* back to hair now.
Sebastian Potion 7Experience the seven wonders of beautiful hair. Sebastian Originals Potion 7 is a rich nutritive treatment that is so personal and versatile, it works to fit your lifestyle not vica versa.
I love this gem I found half-off buried in a bin in a small beauty store in Houston, Texas.
Its a small tube of magic, a deep hydrating conditioner that is meant for in-between salon appointments, or if like me, -do not have the luxury of time n of coz, so much money to professionally steam ur hair in salons.
It smells delicious, somewhat like grapefruits in a field.
When Im feeling like a good girl, I will wash my hair as per normal and instead of my usual conditioner, I apply Potion 7 deliberately over my hair, concentrating on the ends which are usually drier.
Avoid the scalp becoz u dun wanna aggravate oiliness especially in the hot humid weather we have locally.
Wrap a towel like a turban around ur head, (or a hot damp one if u are really free and can be bothered.) then read a magazine, surf the net or disturb ur bf with a face mask on.
I like to use Kose Black Mask becoz I would look like Golliwog and Jungle Boy is usually is afraid of my 'black, black' face but thats just us for that matter.
After half an hour of horsing around, u go to the bathroom, wash it all off and there u have it, -beautiful hair I hope.
:)
Have a great weekend everyone, God bless.
Hope u enjoyed this entry.
xoxo,
elaine
P.S
The author is by no means a professional hairstylist, just a kaypoh trying to save some money with DIY salon style conditioning.

Anal
Being away from blogging for sometime, I highly suspect that I am suffering from something quite, quite serious.
BLOGPOST DIARRHEA.
Maybe its the withdrawal blogger symptoms, thats why its been post after post after post these days!
Bear with me, ok.
Btw, I dun think u should blame me coz I will be going Melbourne after this n will only be back til Thursday which means no blogging til then!
:(
And frankly, I have around ten thousand pictures lying in my lappy all dying for their 15 mins of fame!
I've stopped blogging then, but still very much a camwhore thankyouverymuch.
Some things just dun change overnight, u'noe?
Hee.
Can I show u somehing quite so yummy?
Pancakes on the Rocks, Sydney
Its always full house and people stand outside to wait for ages just for a table.

Huuuuge slab of steak to share.

Its my favourite place to be in Sydney becoz I love pancakes and they are the only decent place to be opened at 10pm anywhere besides Chinatown in that blardy country.
Best Buddy is there for studies (or is it...) n she usually bombard me with her latest gossip about school, about her housemates, about our little red dot n its oh-so-fun doing it over chocolate banana pancakes in the middle of the night.
Then it'll be a slow walk back to the hotel but never, never once will the talking stop.
(Not from me, of cos.)

Ok I know where I get my verbal diarrhea from already.
(Erm, Do u think she'll see this? Ha!)Alrighty mates, have a good one.
Im off to work!
God bless.

Milan Part Uno
Hi everyone!
How did u spend ur day?:)
Mine was really fun with a trip to the library then durians for supper. Heehee.
I wish it was Sunday everyday!
Anyways, I thought I should start slowly with pictures from recent travels.
Esp the cities I really heart.
Here's
Milan in all its glory.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

Erm, the roads.
They confuse me badly, and I guess I ought to stop complaining about road signs in Singapore.
Oh well, at least their shopping centres look great.
Piazza del Duomo, Milan"Milan is renowned as one of the world capitals of design and fashion. The English word milliner is derived from the name of the city. The Lombard metropolis is famous for its fashion houses and shops (such as along via Montenapoleone) and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in the Piazza Duomo (reputed to be the world's oldest shopping mall)."
The shops scream luxury and the sales personnel are a snootish sort.
I love the historical building on the outside, as well as the inside which has a timeless elegance that will never age.
Shops available in Duomo.

On the outside of Duomo.

Like many famous places in Italy, the square outside the Galleria has dozens of pigeons which made it undoubtedly romantic.
What I would do to take my wedding pictures there!
*sigh*

Picturesque sights.

Ok bye everyone, Im off to do something really, really important!
Actually Im off to watch TV laaaa.
N disturb Jungle Boy.
:p
God bless. :)
Ding Tai Feng tomorrow for lunch! Yum yum!

Signing off with words of wisdom from Jungle Boy.
Him: "Kong Fu Zhi once said, If u sleep with an itchy backside, u wake up with a smelly finger."
Me: "Ewwwweeee!"
Him: *looks happy*
Dunno is I disturb him or he disturb me.
P.S
Some info n pictures credit to Wiki.Edited to add:Millie: Milan is quite hot when I went there around a month ago, as u can see from my sundress that I was wearing! :) N Paris has cheaper LV as compared to anywhere in the world.
BIGGGG HUG TO THE REST OF THE GIRLS FOR UR TAGS! *KISS*

The simple things
Today in church, we were told to give thanks to something simple.
I gave thanks just for being able to wake up in the morning. :)
In this hurried, unforgiving world ridden with malice, debt, spite and wrath, - we tend to forget about the simple things.
Nitpicking is just easier and we complain about the unlucky things that happen to us.
How about our family who loves us?
How about the friends who care about us?
We forget.
So would u give thanks to something simple today too?
God bless.
