Dinner, Gift Exchange & Spending an early Xmas
Sometimes all u need for a quick pick-me-up in life are friends, dinner and lotsa laughs.
Im extremely thankful for my bunch of girls, who saw me through the years and I appreciate how they forsake precious time to accompany me for dinner.
Last night was another Happy Hour in our terms, but no alcohol actually needed.
And it was such a blast!
My bestie Wendy & me first did a lovely lunch at Shoduku Cineleisure where we ate as much as we camwhored.

Then it was time for our nail session whereby Shihua joined us at Far East straight.
I did my toes this time, a delightful Christmas themed French Pedicure (My favourite) but with a little twist.
I had some glitter added so the silver and white combination made it a very merry little christmas feel.
Wendy, almost predictably, -had chosen black nail polish for both hands and feet and the girls in the nail salon where laughing at how 'HEI BAI PEI' we were!
Hua had her favourite nude (read = machiam like nothing) colour on, but had also chose to do some glitter glitter with her soft gel nails.
After doing our nails, we had some time to ourselves before meeting our dearest Miko at Paragon for dinner so predictably us girls trooped off for some major
(Wendy), minor
(me) and window shopping
(Shihua)!
I concur that Shihua actually have absolutely nothing to buy until she begrudgingly got forced by us to buy a small present for our Christmas gift exchange at dinner.
And so we had to split up to get a gift each for the lucky dip!
But not before we had a classic Shihua conversation.
Shihua: Can I buy chocolates as the present?
Me & Wendy: *roll eye* Yes u can.... but u are not supposed to tell leh!
Shihua: But I want to eat chocolate actually...
Me & Wendy: THEN U PICK UR OWN PRESENT TO TAKE HOME LOR!
*DOUBLE ROLL EYE*
Hahahahhahaha.
I still giggle at the thought of it as I type this down.
After the present-buying, we all then met up at Paragon Sushi Tei for dinner.
And this was really where the laughter started.
This was my wasabi.

Er..and this was Wendy's when she told me she wanted ABIT of wasabi.

I nearly kena smacked by her can!
But really this is abit wat!!!
><
My bestie bery hard to please.. haha.
Undoubtedly, we were such a rambunctious table!
I tell u, when girls meet up, lewd jokes fly and personal opinions that are quite, quite R(A)rated tend to, well, be openly aired.
We do love being brutally honest with each other and that included sharing bed tactics of others
(men can be really funny!) that we heard through the common grapevine, idle hearsay about mutual friends & their jobs or just to simply put, - it was quite a gossip campaign that we held last night.
:p
Oh.. karma oh karma duncha bite me for being such a biatch...Sigh.
Maybe u should bite my girlfriends first!
Hahahahhaha! Kidding la!
Picture Time!

So after some scandalicious talk, we proceeded to the best part of the evening.. GIFT EXCHANGE!
I made
(well, kinda forced) everyone buy something a gift valued under $20.
(Nothing too expensive becoz recession, you know.)
Then I took some paper, wrote everyone's name on a slip, folded it up and juggled it.
Each person takes a piece and we open up to see who gets whose pressie.
If a person chooses her own name
(I did it like, twice!), we re-do the whole process until everyone get another person's name.
It was quite funny and we did alot of shouting inbetween, too.
:D

I got Miko's pink silver heart pendant, Miko's got Wendy's Crabtree & Evelyn hand moisturisers, Shihua's got my four mugs (as seen in picture) and Wendy's got Shihua's rose fagrance body butter.

But you know what friends are for when we ended up each with a MUG too!
Courtesy of Shihua who really thinks she has no business with FOUR mugs so might as well give us one each!
All thanks to the genius who bought four mugs!
(AHEM! Me! Me!)But thats not all, Miko followed suit by very kindly distributing her hand moisturisers which I absolutely also love becoz its C&E's star product.

So at the end of the day, we all had a jolly good time laughing, playing and having some light-hearted fun despite the gloomy recession period now.
What a memorable way to end the year.
Armed with a 'goody' bag too!
I treasure each gift and will think of the girls whenever I use them.
:D
You look back really, and realise that all the money in the world will never buy u true happiness or love, - and Im truly glad I had some yesterday.
:)
And then I came home to a smiling Jungle Boy and it really made me feel on top of the world.
I appreciate u girls, and thank you for the absolutely wonderful day.
God bless.
Have a great weekend, all.
Merry Christmas!
xoxo

Masks, skin and rebuttals.
I'll be replying tags shortly and that includes to you, too, -"Truth".
This post is dedicated to dear Thumbelinaa who is asking about skincare.
:)
Cetaphil is supposed to be hypoallergenic and safe to use for extremely sensitive and dry skin.
However, if ur nose has started peeling after purchasing a certain item,- I will not recommend continous usage.
Do stop for a week or two to determine actual cause of peeling by using another brand of facial cleanser, preferably using the ones that u have used before.
If the peeling persists, then it might be time to look into ur current skincare regime.
To understand the reasons behind peeling skin one needs to understand the structure of the skin. The skin consists of three basic layers: the outer layer or epidermis, the middle layer or dermis and the inner layer referred to as hypodermis. Each of these layers provides a particular function and is in a continuous state of change.
Every 28 days the epidermis, or outer layer of the skin, is completely replaced once. The 28 day change, in the outer cover of the skin, is influenced by various factors such as hydration, friction, sun exposure and various other environmental issues.
Peeling skin is therefore a temporary problem and is known to heal in a few days as the new skin surfaces.
Some of the known causes leading to this skin disorder are: excessive perspiration, staph or viral infections, or excessive sun exposure resulting in sunburn.
Sunburn is one of the most common causes known that lead to peeling skin. As sunburn heats the top layers of the skin it begins to peel naturally.
If u are not suffering from sunburn, then lack of moisture in skin might be the reason for peeling.
Work stress, extreme cold weather, harsh skin treatments (eg chemical peels) might be a cause for this condition but fortunately there are ways to help improve moisture levels and stop peeling skin.
Here are some of my all-time favourite products from my personal skincare regime.
(Apart from daily moisturisers.)

I use these items alternately
(See previous skincare post), sometimes as often as every two days, - sometimes only twice a week when my skin doesnt feel as dry.
I call them boosters, something u can use in addition when u need some extra moisture and pampering for ur skin.
From Left:
-BirdNest masks from Watson's-I absolutely love this homebrand mask becoz they are really economical but full of Oomph!
The serum is thick and it is brainless and mess-free to use.
Great for frequent travellers becoz it packs light and u can afford to use it as often as u like if u have extremely dry skin.
My method:
I use it daily for a week whenever I experience peeling on cheeks.
Then after 7 days, u can use it weekly.
Pricewise: $$
-Dermalogical Multi-Vitamin Capsules-Made of concentrated dosage of Vitamins A, C & E, this unique formula is made specifically for dry and pre-mature aging skin.
One capsule per application is all u need to deliver potent moisture for older skins so I tend to use it sparingly.
It smells of fish oil (no kidding!) but it makes my skin extremely soft the day after.
Recommended for night use, it goes on before ur regular moisturiser.
My method:
Only once a week, twice max esp after exfoliating face.
Pricewise: $$$$
-La Mer Skin Radiance Infusion-A very cheem name for something that is basically a serum under this luxurious brand.
I bought it coz its my favorite brand (*roll eyes* , I know... Im a sucker for packaging.)
It smells great, .. like the ocean becoz it has seaweed components in it.
My method:
I use it almost alternately before moisturiser in mornings.
Pricewise: $$$$
-Dermalogical Hydrating Booster-My star product becoz it did heal me of sunburn from my fishing trip weeks back.
An odorless, watery like serum, it makes up wat it lacks in looks by delivering unbeatable moisture deep into ur skin.
My method:
Before moisturiser, everyday morning & night.
Packs light becoz of its small size.
Sometimes I even use it alone on days when my skin doesnt feel so dry.
Pricewise: $$$
-SKII Facial Treatment Essence-I've been using this for sometime now and I like how it provides clear skin n doesnt break me out.
Slight hydration purpose but I think I would credit this more for glowy skin.
My method:
In mornings before booster.
Difficult to travel with becoz of its large size (215ml), so sometimes I dun use it for up to a week.
I drop a facemask (shown in above picture)into a small container of treatment essence for a quick pick-me-up mask whenever Im free.
Pricewise: $$$
-Kose Sekkisei Lotion-Extremely similar to the SKII treatment essence, Kose Sekkisei scores brownie points becoz it provides skin whitening effects in addition to hydration purposes.
My method:
Sometimes I either drop some into my palms and pat lightly on face or, put it on some cotton n use it like a toner. It lifts dead skin cells off ur skin's surface & promotes better absorption of ur moisturiser.
Alternatively, u can put a facemask in the lotion to relax if u can spare 15 mins.
Bi-weekly facemasks, alternating daily usage with SKII as lotion/toner.
Pricewise: $$
Here's also some
Natural Remedies to cure peeling skin.
Nature care has some helpful remedies to provide immediate relief and for continuous use to make the skin prevent disorders such as peeling skin.
Here is a compilation of some such known home remedies that one can use for curing peeling skin. It is important to note that if desirable results are not achieved it is wise to consult a physician.
-Grated cucumber applied over the affected areas for 15-20 minutes has been found to be effective especially for the skin on the face. Regular application prevents dryness of the skin. U may also use avocardo flesh if u wish.
-Honey & olive oil are very effective in rejuvenating dry, parched skin.
Apply generously, then wash off after 10 mins.I hope all this info benefits anyone who is trying to solve dry skin and attain that picture perfect skin!
(Who doesnt?!!)
Results might vary and if it doesnt work on you, then u can send it to me!
Haha kidding, dun kill me can already.
:p
God bless, I do really hope u like coz I just came back from work!
Going out for dinner with Jungle Boy and family.
I love Sundays.. or the remainding of my weekend for that matter.
:)

jessica: Im sorry dear but its from the blog designer so I have no idea what this melody is! :(
Ling: Its stephanie :)
CS: My hair extensions felt and looked really natural! But I took them all out becoz it was really heavy and difficult for me when I work. No, I didnt lose alot of hair but then again I only had it on for a mth plus and my hair's really the thick n tough kind. I guess if u have weak and fine hair then its more prone to breakage? All in all, I'll do it again! But ard 3 mths is the max for such things. (Nail, eyelash extensions etc.)

Compliment Of Lady Luck And Mother Nature by Lim Buey TorTuesday, December 2, 2008 at 12:21pm
Elaine’s birthday celebration got off with a ‘terrible’ start. When we received news that many parts of our holiday destination were flooded due to days of heavy rain, eight hours before our scheduled departure time. And subsequently found out that our flight got delayed for six hours after we’ve checked in.
Elaine mentally prepared herself to stay in our hotel for the whole four days three nights – No. Wait. Compliment of flight delay, it’s now three days two nights – by contemplating what spa treatments she shall have for three days two nights.
When we finally arrive at our holiday destination, it was five freaking a.m. in the morning. The last thing on our minds was weather and its forecast. Rain or shine, we don’t care. At that point of time, a bed for us to sleep in is worth more than a balcony view of big green waves smashing into the rocks and exploding in a shower of crystalline white, whip by the wind into a swirling ethereal moment when nature’s savagery and power combine in an instant of shrieking glory.
Guess what. We did wake up to big green waves smashing into the rocks and no rain. Lady luck is on our side, together with Mother Nature, they created the perfect holiday weather for our entire three days two nights stay.
We took full advantage of the good weather, by spending bulk of our time out of our hotel room, going places - feed the sea turtle, get up close and personal with Sarah the Tiger, swing from tree to tree like Tarzan and Jane, go around town in a motorbike like Andy Lau pillion ride his chio bu in his hit movies, swim in the pool, canoe around the bay, and shop the night markets – you name it, we done it.
We even find time to travel forty-five minutes (one way) on motorbike scooter from our hotel to a restaurant so that we can have dinner by the pier. Romantic? Not when we were made to sit facing the high monsoon wind, feed on weird tasting seafood, over-looking a - can collapse any moment - pier. A reality not reflected on that restaurant’s print advertisement.
Perhaps it’s God’s way of telling us: ‘you not high class people, so don’t act high class, okie’. We always seem to enjoy ourselves more, eating at the road side stores, than dining in exclusive restaurants. Maybe one day we will be high class enough to acquire a taste for exclusive dining, but at the rate that we’re going, I’m afraid that the day will probably never come.
Until then, road side stores are our bistro and coffee shops are our restaurant. More so when the first day of the new month started off with a few new records that underscored the goings-on in the world economy. And commodities followed the renewed stock sell-offs with their own pre-holiday clearance sale.

On travels, food and shoes
Hello everyone!
Im dead beat having out doing nails today, having coffee, watching plays two days in a row, shopping, shopping and then some more shopping!
Ok recession struck me today, - but more on that later.
;)
Been kinda busy with work after such a wonderful time during leave, and meeting friends up for a quick catch up in the afternoons when everyone's free.
Impromptu meetups included too, like when I saw my sweetest Clara n pretty Renzze in Miu Miu today!
*whistles*
Aiyooo these two tai-tais can really shop!
I was so outta breath trying to run all over Orchard getting my shopping done and then trying to be on time to meet Jungle Boy but the two lovely ladies look effortlessly impeccable and were literally strolling along in Paragon.
When I grow up I want to be just like them.
:p
Pictures from recent work trips.

Its been some time since I've been there and I've always liked the place, with its grand hotels, juicy steaks and fresh seafood.
Fish & Co was an idea originally from here, actually heehe.
We had to have some whenever we are there.

I remembered a line written at the bottom of the menu and its went something like this, "Banks dun accept Fish, so Fish dun accepts cheques!"
So cute n how original.. I likey.
Then it was back in Singapore for some time alone with Jungle Boy and running errands.
We watched Snow White by W!ldrice at the National Library last night and as usual, Sebastian Tan did an excellent job as the wicked stepmother.
The Singapore production had its twists and turns with little amusing bits like making fun of the govt, having an ah kua dwarf, magic mirror quite sarcastic etc.
It was a delightful little play with a Singaporean touch and we were kept smiling throughout the show.
Jungle Boy n me would usually try to catch as many plays as we can becoz I strongly believe that we have an amazing pool of talent in Singapore and that our local productions can be as interesting, if not,- better than foreign plays.

I woke up bright and early for my nail session and a quickie inbetween with my favourite people at Wheelock.
Coffee today leads from one thing to another and right there and then we made plans next week for a BBQ!
Im so excited, I love food!

Then it was a last-min decision by the Boyfriend to book tickets to 'The Office Party' at the Singapore Repertory Theatre today.
Picture “The Office” meets “Love Actually” and you know you will be in for a rollercoaster ride of laughter, love and tears in this comedy written by John Godber which leads seven diverse characters through the minefield of office politics, petty differences, sexual harassment and hidden desires. And that’s just another day at work!
At the advertising company Chapman and Howard, the staff have taken great pains to prepare for their traditional Christmas bash, and to ensure that they avoid any scandals similar to last year’s which resulted in a visit from the police and the Managing Director’s divorce! But when the drinks flow and the good times roll, the party lurches from one disaster to another.
Directed by Tracie Pang (ST Life! Theatre Awards 2006 & 2007 nominee for Best Director), this comic drama is the perfect antidote to lift up your spirits and spread some good Christmas cheer. This is one play you must catch with your colleagues and friends! It was just as enjoyable a show as the previous night, although they were both very differently themed.
The Office Party was closer to my heart I guess, with its funny rebuttals and crude language, haha.
The first half kept me very entertained, although the latter parts of the show got slightly spacey for me becoz we both felt that the show was trying to be too ambitious by exploring too many themes and topics.
However, all the actors were exceptionally accomplished in their own right and did extremely well in their individual roles.
The storyline was realistic and almost anyone who works in an office could attest to the similarity of characters protrayed in the play.
It was great fun, tonight.
But most importantly of all, I enjoyed being with Jungle Boy.
:)
Have fun during the weekend, all.
God bless.
xoxo,
elaine
P.S

Annual FP Gathering
Omg I haven had such great fun in ages!
After a short Ya Kun session with my long-time sweetheart Pearly from secondary school, I proceeded to a Ma Maison dinner gathering with my former favourite forum
(read:Flowerpod) girls!
It has been ages since we last met and I have to really thank my dearest Miko for organising one.
She's my darling, having to go through phonecalls, sms-es and bookings of restaurants.. just to make tonight happen!
*Kisses* for u babe. :)

God I do miss them!
Esp Jac aka Flowergurl whom I haven seen in ages!
We had so much catching up to do on love & life in general its amazing.
N of coz my lovelies, Queen Mag & Crescent.. all married already!
I am getting old, aint I!
><

I remember when we first met.. everyone was shy but slowly we did become friends from the frequent rants and raves about just almost everything under the sun.
Some years passed and we all grew up, work alot, played harder, found things to do, men to marry etc.
So sometimes u need to get away from work alittle, away from ur normal routine, ur usual kakis and let urself go with acouple of friends u sometimes dun see that often.
A great laugh is akin to great sex.
N tonight, I had plenty.
;)
"I choose my friends for their good looks, my acquaintances for their good characters, and my enemies for their good intellects." -Oscar WildeLet's promise to do it again, soon.
God bless.

Beary beary birthday
For the curious, Jungle Boy did get me a tiny weeny pressie for fun becoz a birthday is not a birthday until u open a present, no?
:)
Two new additions to my Bear family.
Small handphone Pinky and bigger keyring Pinky!

These are limited editions bears which I have been collecting over the past year.
The white and red one was a Valentine gift, n it has a heart shaped logo instead of its usual triangle one.
Prada's bringing these bears back for Christmas and they have new animals for those who doesnt like bears.
(Who doesnt like bears??)

I like the monkey and panda bear!
They are really affordable at $270 (big) and $160 (small) it makes a cute Christmas pressie for loved ones.
Alrights, off to take a shower and go meet girlfriends soon!
God bless.

I have since taken them out becoz I cant tie them properly for work! ><
Anon: Thank u!
Celine: Sorry I cant reveal anything about work. If u would like to ask me any questions regarding my job, feel free to email me. Thanks! :)
Joanne: Thanks I miss my old blog too. :(
Fan: Hee, thanks.
little.miss.tiny: *nods* I think changing skincare often does wonders for ur skin too! N regarding gel n cream based, it should be due to ur skin's texture although people usually say gel is for younger skin becoz young skin tend to be more oily and gel-based moisturisers are easier to penetrate n 'lighter'. Cremes are 'heavier' n more suitable for dry skins, eg mature skins.
Passerby: I love my Lanolin cream! Good for legs n hands too coz its so cheap.. :)
Thanks Joanne, Jan, Rae, Silver (I miss u!) Jam, Jen n Angelia!
Thumbelina: U can get Cetaphil at watsons n guardian. Hths!

Best Friends
Love is doing girly things with ur bestie spending the whole afternoon together.
:)

We had a leisurely slow Japanese pasta lunch, only to be jolted back to reality with the fact that we had errands to run and nails to do!
Postponed our pedicure and rushed down to the other side of Orchard to replace her Omega's battery.
Then we went shopping.
(Window shopping.. Recession u noe?)
Topping off the cherry on the cake was a present from all my besties!
Thank you loves, - I am blessed with all of u in my life.

P.S
Another dinner date with the girls tomorrow n Im excited!
Haven seen them in ages!
Pictures soon, I promise.

Rotting day after day
Dear all,
I may take forever to load the pictures!
I have 216 pictures stored in my trusty camera and it was just from the first day.
It was a "DUH" moment when my camera died on me while out sight-seeing and Jungle Boy simply said, "Dun worry, go back and charge lor."
I looked at him sheepishly and replied,"Hee. I never bring charger leh."
Think he is resigned to having a silly girlfriend already.
5 tops, 2 dresses , two pairs of footwear, an array of skincare n makeup but no charger.
Classic.
It kinda reminded me of the time when I was in New York and I had constantly reminded myself to bring my charger, to which I did .. but only to reach there and realise that I forgot all about the CAMERA.
:/
Anyways, back to Koh Samui!
Pictures here are from Day One and I have more but I'll save that for later.
We stayed at The Renaissance Koh Samui Resort and Spa, which was absolutely lovely and we have no regrets since we stepped in.

Prices were not cheap I concur, (1.9k for both of us, 4D3N) considering its only a short getaway, but we like the fact that the hotel is away from Chawang Beach, which was too commercialised for our taste.
We were near Laem Nan Beach and the quietness there explains why there were zero touts on our beach as compared to Chanwang.
I liked it immediately.
Our Room

Seaview rooms have private jacuzzis.

Greenery greenery everywhere and the place had alot of lush trees and open spaces so you feel very comfortable and we settled in rightaway.
We woke up bright and early on the second day despite flying in very late becoz of flight delays due to BKK.
The air was fresh and our seaview from the room put us in a great mood immediately.
Thank God we managed to get in coz there were other flights totally cancelled.
And although weather reports were gloomy, it didnt rain when we were there so we made most of our time being out and scooter-ing around the island.
Different areas of the hotel which I took when we went for breakfast.

The poolside which was overlooking the beach.
Perfect for lazing the morning away.
To which we did.

After a Perrier and some reading on the situation in BKK, we headed back to the room and took some money to go out sightseeing.
We planned on the Samui Aquarium and Tiger show so we got the hotel to get someone to pick us up.
Transport was free and we paid 600B (about $24 sin) each.
I loved sea creatures.
We saw baby sharks, turtles, lobsters, eels and such.
Then we saw cheetahs, tigers and various small animals like monkeys and birds.
It was like a mini zoo!

After getting back to the hotel, it was barely evening and we had lotsa time exploring the place and deciding what to do next.
Jungle Boy bravely rented a scooter without pior experience so the security guards at Renaissance had a good laugh when we nearly crashed into the guard house.
Embarrassing yes, but we nutcases had utter fun.
It was so much fun til we rode 45 mins away to Bo Phut by sheer luck and some common sense.
We reached Fisherman Village, Bo Phut and was transported back to an era where dogs ran freely, people walked barefooted and the wind gently billowing.
I loved it.

Thinking back I think I loved how simple life is over in Samui and the people are friendlier, more down to earth and sincere.
There were no noisy discos, no rowdy people, no skycrapers.
Just a small village, some restaurants, shops and a beach.
I think Im a kampong girl at heart, really.
Scootering back to our resort with Jungle Boy infront made me wish for simplicity in life.
No huge cars, fancy restaurants or expensive gifts needed to make a girl happy, u noe?
A true heart, genuine affection and mutual appreciation of each other will do.
Sometimes people hanker after the most ridiculous things in life not knowing that the most important things are right infront of you.
Friends, family and that special someone who cares about u.
:)
"Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back.
But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that's just fabulous." -
Carrie Bradshaw, Sex and the City Im lucky I met my fabulous.

Samui, Samui.
Im back!
I have about a thousand pictures and yesh a hundred videos too.
The trip was a short retreat from the hustle n bustle of city life and I absolutely adored the simple life there.
We rented a motorbike, and sans helmet, - decided to tour the island.
I loved the carefree feeling with the wind in my hair and hugging on to Jungle Boy for dear life.
Life's a piece of cake with clothes on ur back, a waterbottle and ur favourite person in the whole wide world with you.
:)
Ok, MacDonald's waiting for me!
Oh well, back to the city,- back to fastfood.
ITS MY BIRTHDAY TODAY!Oops, yesterday coz its midnight now.
Thanks to everyone who sms-ed me while I was at Samui.
