Curiosity Satisfied
The most beautiful cosmetic you can wear is a healthy skin. That's why everything Jane Iredale develops is a true extension of skin care.
The Jane Iredale Starter Kit includes
- Smooth Affair Facial Primer & Brightener
- Amazing Base Loose Mineral Powder
- PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation
- Pommisst Hydration Spray
- Mini Powder Brush
- Reusable Cosmetic Bag with Mirror
I received the Starter Kit in Medium Light - Warm Sienna but here below I've included the list of colors and tones that Jane Iredale has.
The Starter Kit Box
It opens up to a detailed list of pictorial instructions on how to use the products.
This silver zip cosmetic case is embossed with a gold Jane Iredale logo on top.
It unzips to reveal a brochure and the items are packed neatly in Jane Iredale's tissue wrapping paper. Feels just like Christmas!
Taking a peek inside
I'll make a short introduction and review of the products in the Starter Kit.
SMOOTH AFFAIR™ FACIAL PRIMER & BRIGHTENER
Smooth Affair has anti-aging properties that even skin tone, minimize the appearance of pores and increase luminosity. Makeup goes on more easily and lasts longer. The light, fresh fragrance is uplifting.
First Impressions : I like the Grapefruit extract scent once I opened the tube. Its slightly pinkish when applied, but finishes to a clear, matted and smooth look.
AMAZING BASE® LOOSE MINERAL POWDER
Provides Broad Spectrum SPF 20 and UVA P++ protection that is water resistant for up to 40 minutes. Has exceptional coverage, including redness and brown spots. Free of oil, talc, dyes and parabens. Ideal for people who suffer from skin problems such as eczema or rosacea.
First Impressions : This loose powder is free of any fragrance and I like that it is talc-free and does not contain parabens. The finished look is very soft and light so you might need a concealor for darker spots. Great for a lighter makeup look that is not too thick. A little goes a long way and I usually overturn the jar before I open it, and use the powder 'on' the lid instead. Its more mess-free this way too. Tip : If you intend to bring your loose powder out, perhaps you can cut a small face sponge and place it inside so that excess powder will not spill out when there's movement.
PUREPRESSED® BASE SPF 20
The look is sheer and semi-matte. The feel is weightless. Trust our mineral foundation to look like your skin, only better. Contains antioxidants such as pine bark extract and pomegranate extract (a potent antioxidant that aids in minimizing UV damage).
First Impressions : The PurePressed Base provided a thicker coverage as compared to the Loose Powder but it also glided on smoothly and easily with the brush. I would think this works just as well without any liquid foundation or BB/CC cream under. Perhaps by just using a Primer will do for a near-flawless look. I would prefer to get the Pressed Powder as it is not as messy and is convenient for travel but personally  I do think I prefer the lighter look from the Loose Powder.
A small comparison between the PUREPRESSED® BASE SPF 20 (Left) and AMAZING BASE® LOOSE MINERAL POWDER (Right)
POMMISST™ Hydration Spray
The Jane Iredale Hydration Sprays have been reformulated and awarded ECOCERT’s Natural and Organic certification! You'll love their fresh, clean fragrances and you'll love what they do for the health of your skin.
First Impressions : Im most excited to try the Jane Iredale Hydration Spray! I have heard so much about it but have never gotten to try it for myself. I have rather sensitive skin, so sometimes it get a little dry and itchy when the weather is hot or if I have been out in the sun for too long. I love the refreshing fragrance of the Pomegranate and this is used to set mineral makeup and even help to conceal pores and fine lines! It also can be used to moisturize oily skin; or for dehydrated skin, you can use after moisturizer and after makeup. Spritz brushes to intensify eye shadows and use them as eyeliners. Or even mist in your hair to control static! Im seriously thinking of getting the full-sized one for myself!
UNIVERSAL APPLICATION BRUSH
First Impressions : This came with the Starter Kit (I cant find it on the website) and I find it a tad small and thin for regular foundation application. Perhaps using it for a quick touch-up or for blusher will be better. Made of hand-tied goat hair, it is pretty soft and delicate enough to pick up loose powder, though.
**Edited to Add : Overall, I find the products a little small but Jane Iredale doesnt come cheap (a single full-size Base Mineral Powder retails USD $52/SD$65 excluding tax and shipping) so this is a rather good way to get started with trying out the brand without splurging on full prices. The classy silver makeup pouch is also quite useful for small items and there's a good-size mirror for easy touch-ups. Especially because the powders does not come with individual mirrors. The colors of the powders also run true, so when in doubt go for a slightly lighter color and apply with a light hand rather than to order a darker color and worrying about oxidization.
Hope you like the little review!
I just received it yesterday so I wanted to share about how you can get this for yourself if you are interested. Jane Iredale prices can be quite steep so if you are thinking about trying it for yourself but is reluctant to splurge full price, this Starter Kit is for you. Originally retailing at $110, it is now $89 at the Black Box e-store. There are only 300 boxes available, so do hurry.
Thanks once again Black Box!
