Me: What the...

For obvious reasons Jungle Boy does NOT go to Passion.
He's just saying that becoz he lazy to cut hair.

I love watching old movies in the afternoon.
My ultimate favourite couples of all times have to be the charismatic Chin Han and the perfect beauty Lin Ching Hsia.



I absolutely relish their fashion sense, revel in their courting ways and take pleasure in simple oh-I-love-you-so-much-I-cant-live-without-you storylines.

Where have those days gone to?
The dating game then only consists of a walk in the park and 50c movie tickets.
And if u really, really liked him - he gets to hold ur hand.

For a mere 2 seconds before u pull away shyly and look like u ate a hundred chilis.

And if ur parents hate his guts, - all u can do is to cry dramatically, slam ur fist in ur pillow and pretend to not to eat while looking out of ur bedroom window like a lovesick puppy.

But at the end of the day, the lovers will always reunite and the whole family will live happily ever after.

Oooohhh... how I delight myself in soppy old movies whenever I have the time.

I've seen it before afew years ago but never had the time to actually sit down and read the book.
Its actually kinda like a reference book, a modern-day bible of all kinds of product listings and its ingredients.
The author tries the product and makes comments based on price and I was simply in shock of how cunning labels are!

I like how objective the author is, and she is definitely not one who falls for packaging.
If u have the chance, try to take a look and u will be surprised how similar drugstore products are to the high-end ones sold at prices of the GDP of a small African country.

Now Im never going to look at beauty products in dept stores the same way as I ever did, again.
But is it a good thing or a bad thing.. I ponder?

LOS ANGELES Part One

I lazed around until noon coz I was pretty jet-lagged and it was off to the mall for a round of shopping!



I wore blue on the first day and put my hair down.
(Yes thats me on the bottom left acting cute. *gag*)
I had terrible eyebags due to jet-lag and I was pretty zombie the whole time.

The breakfast pictures u see are a 8am hot American breakfast on the second day with my girlfriend coz we were so hungry!
I only occasionally have scramble eggs and bacon coz Im actually a very cheena pok pok at heart.

Gimme fried you tiao and porridge anytime.
I find that having very greasy food early in the morning kinda makes me alittle queasy.

My colleagues and I went to Costco!
Its a warehouse kinda place where u can stock up on everything under the sun.
Prices are albeit cheaper coz they sell u in packs of 6 and everything are in cartons.
Great for the housewives in my group.. they loved the place!

Just some of the items they bought..
And there are no plastic bags there becoz the items are usually in boxes or in larger quantities so everyone has to bring their own bag!



I went there for two hours, and all I bought was edamame and a magazine.
Sigh.
Poor Jungle Boy.. Im so not domesticated sometimes.

I mean, I wash clothes and clean the house.. but when it comes to grocery shopping I just wanna sleep.
Instead of taking everything, I keep thinking "Ooooh I dun need this, I dun need that either.." Then at the end of the day my cart is still empty despite walking around for ages!

Jungle Boy buys so much more at the supermarket than me.
He takes and takes and I keep putting them back!

If only I have that attitude in the clothing dept...

OOH! My hair for the day!

Why do they call Los Angeles the city of angels when all I see is cars, highways and crazy people walking on the streets.
Hehehee.

But nevertheless, I have always enjoyed being in the states coz there are plenty of shopping to do!
Its pretty amazing how many shops there are here... and how many Starbucks there are here, too.
Throw a stone and you would probably hit one.. or even three.

Im off to watch my DVDs later, need some time to settle down with a mask coz my skin is so dry from the changes in weather.
Its about 19degrees here but it feels colder.

I miss Jungle Boy already but he's so busy with work going into the jungle for the week.

And now u noe why I call him by that nickname coz he works in the jungle.. not becoz he is Tarzan and I am Jane. (??? where did that come from?)

I hope ur long weekend was fabulous coz we do need alittle break from the hustle and bustle of city life and work.

r:Hi R! There are no difference in prices from boutiques or dept stores becoz the prices are very controlled. However, if the particular store is having a sale then lucky u! But I like going to the boutiques coz the chances of getting a new piece is much higher as compared to the stores. (They have very limited sizes n pieces) Manolos are definitely cheaper in the states. CL are not as cheap, unless u get them on sale. :)

jas: I use the SKII cleanser, but my moisturizer is La mer for day and Clarins for night. I use Clinque toner and I never limit myself to a certain brand. I dun think anybody should either, and as long as a product work on u- thats good enough!

Omg I tell u, I just walked into Challenger today and bought myself a Canon IXUS camera in pink!
Jungle Boy laughed at me coz I couldnt even wait for him to walk into the shop.
I went to find my BFF for a fringe trim and Challenger was on the same floor so ta-dahhh..



Jungle Boy forced me to promise that I wouldnt bling this up.
Quite cute la the pink but at $499.. got to eat grass for awhile.

We tried Claypot Fun at east coast Big Splash for the very first time.
Food was so-so, but the queue was not!

Hi guys!
I came back from work last night and had supper with Jungle Boy who never ceases to amaze me with his midnight appetite.
The thing is, that man is severely underweight compared to him eating supper every night but I drink water and put on a kg.
:(

I skipped Pilates to lie in bed and snooze the morning away and even as guilty as I am, it feels great to sleep when its raining!
Been working hard these days and my old bones are aching.

I like talking to Jungle Boy every night before we head to bed, partly to tell him about my plans for the next day but mostly to disturb him.

Yes, we do have a kinda peculiar relationship where its perfectly normal to irritate and be sarcastic.
In fact, if he's too kind with his words - I get wee bit afraid.
:P

Me: Hey do u think I lost weight?
Jungle Boy: *nods*
Me: *happy* Really ah!
Jungle Boy: Ya ur thighs slim down so much until they disappeared! I cant see them anymoreee!!! *in mock horror*

Talking about my BFF... we have another wedding to plan!

My darling friend is getting ROM-ed on my birthday in fact and while its going to be a small intimate party for family and close friends.. we still have to arrange makan and think about what to wear.
Decisions, decisions.

Im always happy when I see my friends walking down the aisle and I sincerely hope that every single person in the world finds their perfect match.
But then again, nobody can ever be that perfect so I guess it all depends on how much u love that person and how much u are willing to compromise.

Personally I absolutely abhor how lazy Jungle Boy can be (clothes all over, asking me for water etc) but just like how he hates it when I can go on talking and talking (ha ha!) I guess we both have no choice but to grin and bear with each other flaws!

But if all fails, do review on ur sleeping pattern (late night, booze etc) and also if u have a tendency to rub ur eyes.
Dark eye rings and eyebags are caused by many factors in ur lifestyle n sometimes its also due to genetics.

I guess I miss my New York too much.. the sights, the shopping, the traffic (like real) and of coz, my dear friends half a world away.

But weirdly I really do like waking up to horns blaring and where people walked so fast, - you perpetually feel like you are in their way.

And like how there are only two kinds of mobile users there, the Iphone-ers and the Blackberry-ers.

I am the only ancient stone-age person in New York who owns a Nokia handphone.
But I applaud my individuality. (There.) Although I kinda do like those cutesy Paris Hilton pink diamate Blackberry-s.. kidding!

And despite being severely jet-lagged, I went for mussels and gelato with my favorite people in New York!
They tasted like a million bucks.



They are coming back in October!
Cant wait.

But I spent most time shopping coz it was sale season and I had a whole list of items to buy!
Lemmings momentarily fulfilled.

I came home with so many presents I almost caused Jungle Boy to fall backwards going up the stairs.

And then when I was back home I went for a facial.

I like their personal closet where I can safely put my stuff in, their makeup corner with SKII cosmetics free for all to use, and of coz.. their extremely comfortable bed!

But most of all, - their free parking at Scotts!
Very secluded, very private.

Facials are best done in hush-hush, coz its not the best time to see your frenemies when you are all red-nosed and pimply from all the deadly extractions.

But then again, I did go out right after my facial that day!
I met the girls.. :)

We had dinner at Sushi tei then coffee at TCC, Paragon.

We're meeting up again this weekend coz someone very special is coming back from Sydney!
It'll be another round of dinner, drinks and much-anticipated gossip from everyone.

Some questions I got from emails and tags.

Q: Elaine! Where did u get the Nutrogena Clarifying shampoo?
A: Omg I so so embarrassed coz I didnt realise that it was been discontinued. I got it from a small heartland shop selling toiletries and it was some time ago so dun fret if u can get the exact same product! Most clarifying shampoos serve the same purpose and are for most hair types.

Q: Where is the cheapest place to get Chanel/LV/Miu Miu?
A: Most European countries are cheaper due to the use of Euro and also being a foreigner, U get to claim tax which saves u roughly another 12%.
But Paris is by far the cheapest for Chanel/LV, followed closely by Milan.
Im not very sure about London though, but the last time I went there Chanel was very expensive coz they regulated the pricings. Miu Miu was pretty cheap though and it was a huge disappointment for me coz I procrastinated getting display pieces!
But no love lost, I have plenty of bags I hardly use nowadays anyway.

Now its yoga, swimming, cheap clothes (buy them online!) and having a smash with my friends in shorts.

I lurve dressing up (who doesnt!) but really, there is more to life than looking good.

I met someone sitting on a wheelchair today in the lift and as I held the door for him, - he turned and gave me such a huge smile with a loud 'thank you!'.
I seldom get nary an acknowledgement from the kids here, let alone other seemingly healthy fellow Singaporeans.

But this particular man struck me as someone so optimistic, so full of life.. despite his seemingly physical difference as the rest of us.

We are healthy human beings, totally perfect on the outside but we lament so much about our imperfect lives with our imperfect jobs and imperfect pay but do we really seem to be taking too much for granted?

I was idle chatting to someone and suddenly this stranger said, "Well.. someone is having a worse day, I betcha." and Eureka! It struck me in the head like someone who stumbled upon a pot of gold, yes - someone is having a worse day!

So why am I complaining so much about life when it has been so good to me?

And even on days when I feel like giving everything up..(Im human too and I get negative sometimes.) I now stop and think how silly I am and things start looking up from there.

Try it.
Dun sweat the small stuff anymore and u are well on ur way to a happier, healthier life.

Am finally back after suffering from a bout of 'chicken-rice/bak-ku-teh/char-kway-teow' food slash home-sickness.
Im a terrible eater overseas, -I stupidly yearn for all things hawker becoz u can never find fishball noodles chili many many anywhere else for $2.50.
(Except perhaps malaysia)

Its been raining and Im so bloody thankful that I resisted the urge to wash my car yesterday!
And yes... we DIY car-washing too!

Frankly, car-washing has been quite a chore but luckily for me - Jungle Boy does the backbreaking stuff (like cleaning the tyres..yikes!) while I usually have the irksome duty of wiping the inside and dusting the rubber mats.

But weirdly it is quality time spent with the bf and it also gives him a workout.
Esp when I think he spends too long a duration hunched over a computer at work.

Talking about workouts, I nearly died in Yoga today but it was great fun!
And whenever I wince in pain - I would always curse silently and think.."Why the hell am I torturing myself??"
But like a drug, U get alittle addicted to the pain and it does feel good afterwards.

I ended the regime with a swim and got little darker again!
Sigh.. I can never be fair in this lifetime I guess.
:(

All this swimming has done some damage to my tresses so I do alittle DIY to my hair whenever I have the time.

Amore has a sauna room so after I take a shower, I put a deep conditioning mask on my hair from roots to ends and sit in the steam for about ten minutes.

Even if u dun have access to a sauna room u can easily and replicate this in the comfort of ur home.

DIY HAIR CONDITIONING TREATMENT

-A Towel
-Large Ziplock Bag
-Hair Mask (Any brand will do.)
-Kitchen Gloves (* Optional)

Place a wet towel in the ziplock bag but do not zip it fully, leave a small gap only.
This is to allow steam to escape.
Microwave the bag for about 2 minutes.
During this time, step in the shower and apply ur hair mask.
DO NOT RINSE HAIR YET.
I recommend u to wear a pair of gloves becoz the steam and heat from the towel might scald u.
Wring the towel of excess water and wrap ur hair up in a *turban.

Q: How to wrap hair in a turban?
A:Prepare n place the towel at the nape of ur neck and bend over to let all ur hair fall to the front. Cover hair fully with the towel and twist towel while still bending over. Once fully twisted, stand upright and tuck the ends  of the towel into the back of the towel near the back of ur neck.

Once hair is covered in towel, relax for 15 minutes before rinsing it out with cold water. Using cold water as a final rinse will cause the scales of the cuticle to close and can help constrict the openings of the sebaceous glands to help moderate sebum production.


Style as normal.
Apply serum at the ends of hair if necessary.

For most hair, using a clarifying shampoo is beneficial.
This gets rid of buildup from ur hairsprays or waxes and will enhance your DIY steaming process.
I use Nutrogena Clarifying shampoo, u can get it from most drugstores.

Buildup is when the hair has a sticky or gummy feel, the conditioner choice seems to work less well, or the hair may be more prone to tangling. Buildup occurs when the minerals from water and/or products are not rinsed away during shampooing. Clarifying shampoo may be required to remove it. Clarifying removes all things on the surface of the hair strands, essentially leaving the hair without moisture. Failure of conditioning as part of a clarifying hair wash process may lead to excessive drying of hair.

My mum had just discovered an Italian place in Macpherson and apparently the chef is an ang moh who married a local.
So off we went as a family for some authentic Italian fare in the suburbs!

My uncle joined us too coz he lived nearby and being a quiet man, I think he enjoyed the food silently becoz he had a couple of helpings!

I am most happy when I see loved ones enjoy the food they are eating.

I think mealtimes are most enjoyable times when u sit down with the family and recount about ur day.
This is where bonding occurs and to me,- food tastes best when shared. :)


It was a light, affable atmosphere and I wore my new pink top from Fashion Euphoria!

It is absolutely a dream to wear this in Singapore's weather. And you could easily wear this to the office with a pair of blank pants!

I'm lucky that I dun need to buy too many corporate clothes, else my wardrobe would have burst open by now!
