Lunch Date with Tori King

Thursday, November 22, 2012

I might have found the perfect ramen.
Im actually pretty familiar with the Keisuke Tokyo ramen becoz I've been to the Ramen Keisuke Tonkotu King restaurant at Tanjong Pagar several times but this time round, I was delighted to be given an opportunity to try their 3rd branch - 'Ramen Keisuke Tori King' at Tras Street! Thanks to Irene & Dee!
Stepping into the 30 seater restaurant, one would immediately be transported back to the swinging 60s, a vintage era by looking at the retro movie posters and Japanese comic strips adorning the wall.
Besides the posters, you can also find handwritten notes like these on the walls!
Super kawaii~!!
The concept here is relatively simple.
Take a look at the menu and you can find a number of pictures depicting the different toppings available.
There are mainly 3 kinds of soup style here :
(All soup is chicken-based, hence the name "Tori King")
The Original
Black Spicy Soup (Black Pepper)
Green Spicy Soup (Wasabi)
The Ordering:
Each patron will be given a small slip of paper and all you need to do is to fill it up individually. Tip: We also wrote our names on the paper so when the orders came, all the servers had to do was to call out the names! No confusion at all! *thumbs up*
It might look daunting for a first-timer but dun worry! I'll walk you through the steps.
Simply tick the box of your choice (Mine is Green Spicy Tori King Ramen Special)
You can also choose to have a 'lighter' or 'strong' broth, but I would recommend 'Normal' to most people here. I personally would prefer 'Less Oil' in my soup but this is a tasting session so I ticked 'Normal' once again. There is also a box to choose how you would like your noodles done, and again, I prefer it to be 'Normal' so the tick goes to that box, keke. Lastly, for extremely picky eaters - you can opt to exclude garnishes like black fungus, spring onions in your meal. But I love them all so Im not ticking any! In fact I loveee spring onions! Gimme more even! So I digress. :p
Each table has free-flow (yes.. FREE-FLOW!) eggs, beansprouts and sesame seeds!
The girls and I that afternoon! We were starving and cant wait to try out the ramen!
Here it is!
(Haha show u file picture first!)
Each bowl has a generous portion of charsiew (Japanese roast pork), ajitsuke tamago (Japanese egg with runny yolk) and a huge chicken drumstick!! Yummy yummy slurp slurp slurp~ Look at my Green Spicy soup! Im hungry looking at these pics again!
Here's Karen's Black Spicy!
Our table of oiishi ramen!!!
Extremely pleased girls who cant wait to dig in!
Remember my sesame? Grate it alittle and sprinkle over the broth ~ trust me, it brings out the aroma of the soup!
Nom nom nom ...
Thank you Tori King for the invite and I would love to drop by another day with the husband! We are huge ramen fans :)
I really loved the chicken soup coz its a lighter, healthier alternative to the pork based ones we usually get from most ramen restaurants :)
Here is owner and celebrity chef Mr Keisuke Takeda with us that day! What an honor to meet him!
Founder of the Keisuke Tokyo chain - Mr. Keisuke Takeda was crowned Tokyo Ramen King of 2011. With such accolades behind him, fans and customers of Keisuke Tokyo can expect even more exciting culinary masterpieces from Mr. Keisuke Takeda at Ramen Keisuke Tori King.
And he was such an accommodating man! We took so many pictures that afternoon so a huge Thank you Mr Keisuke Takeda for your precious time!
I would highly recommend you to try out this place, the prices are extremely reasonable ($12.90-$16.90 per bowl) and the free flow of eggs & beansprouts are a nice touch to the dining experience. However, please do note that they dun take reservations and dun be surprised at the long queues everyday! Tip: Go slightly earlier to beat the crowd and make sure that your party is relatively punctual! The food here is simple, fuss-free and ramen is always the most heartwarming kind of meal especially on a rainy day! Hope you enjoyed the pics! xoxo
Do check out my friend's Karen's (here!) and Irene's(here!) article on Tori King too! Cya and bye!
